20.  Rainbow Bagel w/Cotton Candy Creme Cheese – The Bagel Store, NYC

The sweetest and most colorful way to start your day in Brooklynn… and I love any food that can put a smile like that on my daughters face.

19.  The Diablo Burger – Diablo Burger, Flagstaff, AZ

Angus grass-fed beef, green chilies, pepper jack, bacon, fried egg and avocado…on a branded english muffin… this devilish burger was made for the gods.

18.  Edge Fries – Edge Brewery, Boise, ID

Shaved parmesan, candied bacon and a balsamic reduction top these first class Idaho potatoes… You’ll need some good navigation skills to find this unassuming brewery, but the hunt is worth it… and their beer is just as amazing!

It’s a burger smashed between two donuts…. do I need to say more?

16.  Sushi – Taka’s Grill, Westport, CA

Far up the California coast on Pacific Coastal Highway 1, in the tiny town of Westport, is this gem of a japanese restaurant. Their sushi is AMAZING and you can finish filling up your belly at the ice cream shop next door before taking your romantic stroll down the beach.

15.  BBQ – Salt Lick, Driftwood, TX

When animals die, they dream of an afterlife over the smoker at Salt Lick.  You will find it very difficult to find better, more authentic and passionately made BBQ anywhere else… Meat heaven.

14.  Strip Steak – Snowy Range Sports Bar, Laramie, WY

You’ll drive by and tell yourself you’d never go in that place… but… don’t judge a book by its cover… within it’s bland outer walls you will find the most perfectly seasoned and cooked pepper crusted New York Strip in the entire state of Wyoming.  This state loves its cattle…and you can taste it.

13. Deep Fried Rattlesnake – The Hitchin Post, Apache Junction, AZ

Don’t knock it till you try it… rattlesnake is deep fried bliss.  And besides, its one less snake to have to worry about.

12.  Deli Sandwich – Backcountry Provisions, Fort Collins, CO

The freshest sandwich ingredients you can find… and they open before the sun rises so you can load up on these delicious provisions for your long day of climbing 14,000 ft peaks in the Rocky Mountains.

11.  Poutine Fries – The Loft, Leavenworth, WA

Poutine with a little twist… but the twist is magical.  These fries are loaded with country gravy, cheese, sausage, bacon, jalapeños, onion and garlic… the perfect thing to soak up all the beer you spent the day drinking in this Bavarian village themed mountain town.

1o.  Fish and Chips – Hello Betty, Oceanside, CA

The fish and chips are soooooo good…. but the real winner here is the view of the Pacific Ocean you get to enjoy as you gobble down it’s inhabitants.

9.  Sonoran Hotdog – El Guero Canelo, Tuscon, AZ

I drove hundreds of miles out of the way for this, because my friend here insisted that I absolutely needed to meet up with her to experience the legendary Sonoran Hotdog… and holy hotdog was she right.  This is no ordinary dog… wrapped in bacon and then covered in pinto beans, cheese, onions, tomatoes, salsa, grilled jalapeños, mayo and mustard.  This is a hotdog that transcends all other hot dogs.

8.  Street Tacos – Vera Cruz, Austin, TX

I have a weakness for tacos… and these are the best I know.  Mostly, because of the creamy avocado salsa in squeeze bottles that you can slather your tacos in…. join the taco diet and eat these all day and everyday…. breakfast, lunch and dinner… if you can.

7.  Swordfish – Monterey’s Fish House, Monterey, CA

This is where the locals in Monterey eat and it is the best seafood I’ve ever eaten.  Right down the street from John Steinbeck’s famous cannery row, is the freshest and most immaculately cooked fish in California.  One bite and you’ll agree.  I recommend an Anchor Steam from the neighboring San Francisco to wash it all down.

6.  Pork Green Chili – The Boat House, Salida, CO

Hidden in this tiny Colorado mountain town, along the Arkansas River, is the best damn green chili on earth.  Green chili is an art… and The Boathouse is the Michelangelo of southwestern green chili.  Though Salida is probably way out of your way, make the journey… you will be happy you did.

5.  Beignets and Coffee – Cafe Du Mode, French Quarter, New Orleans, LA

There’s voodoo at work here… one bite and you’ll turn into a french quarter zombie who’s only desire is to devour it’s french pastries and coffee.

4.  Sourdough Clam Chowder Bowl – Boudin Bakery, San Francisco, CA

Not many foods in the world come close to the amazingness of San Francisco sourdough gutted and filed with fresh clam chowder.  Grab it to go, watch the sea lions while you eat and experience a deeply ingrained part of San Fran culture.

3.  Butter Burger – Kroll’s, Green Bay, WI,

Leave it to Wisconsin.  Across the street from the Packer’s Lambeau Field, is Kroll’s.  They chop up pads of butter, mix it into the raw patties before they cook them and then… when they’re done, they pour even more melted butter over your burger before sandwiching it between two butter slathered toasted buns.  If it doesn’t come sitting in a bowl of melted butter, it ain’t no butter burger.  *not for people with heart conditions.

2.  Deep Fried Turkey – Slab City, CA

You won’t find this restaurant on a map.  Invite only and in the middle of a shanty town in the middle of the Mojave desert, THIS is the only way to eat… no plates or utensils either… just your dirty grimy fingers pulling hot meat off bones.

1.  Gyro – The Halal Guys, NYC

And the number one… The spicy hot gyro from the Halal Guys food truck in New York City.  Perfect for hunger, perfect for soaking up a nights worth of alcohol, perfect for hangovers, and perfect for life.  Just……perfect.
